Do I need a visa? If you are a US, Canadian, EU or Australian Citizen you do not need a visa. All you need is a valid passport to enter the country. NOTE: If your passport expires earlier than 6 months after the 2 February you will need to reknew your passport---EU authorities will not let you travel.
What will the weather be like in January, February? Weather in Italy is very mild. It may drop down to 35 F° at night but then be in the mid 50°F at during the day. It may or may not rain---this could easily happen in May or June too. I once had a monsoon during a tour and we had to wait inside 2-3 hours in mid-June. Regardless of the weather--it won't affect any of our activities. Warm coats, gloves, and hats are advised---but it rarely snows in Italy. The best thing about coming in the winter is there are fewer tourists!
Is Italy safe? Italy is fairly safe---the most common crimes are petty theft--like wallets, phones, etc. We recommend leaving your nice things back at home. Violent episodes towards tourists are very rare and your guides will tell you about places that are unwise to visit.
